Locating a known web site

Knowledge Area

The main function of the browser location bar is to locate given web site.  In other words, if you know the web address you can locate the site using this area.

Skill Area

To type in an address inside your location bar, do this:

  • By default, there will always be an address in this area.  To overwrite the address, click inside the WHITE area to select the address already displayed, then type your new address in.  There is no need to type the http:// as this will automatically be inserted for you.

  • Once you have type your address in, hit your enter key on your keyboard, your browser will then go looking for this web site and send you its home page.

You can also drag a web link to the location bar instead of clicking on it.  To do this:

  • Move over the link you would like to appear in your location bar

  • Hold down with your left mouse key and drag then drop it into your location bar

IMPORTANT NOTE
Problems are often caused by incorrect typing of a web address.  If you get an error message after typing in an address, you may have typed it in incorrectly.

Revisiting known web addresses

Knowledge Area

A record is kept of all the web addresses you type into the location bar.  This list scrolls down recording around 25 URL's (Universal Resource Locators) or web addresses. The list rotates as more are inserted, knocking off oldest address typed in.

Skill Area

  • If you type in a number of URL's and want to avoid re-typing the addresses in, you can locate them by using this list.  To do this:

  • Click on the "down arrow" which appears at the right of the location area, this should expose your list

  • Now scroll through this list until you locate the URL you wan to return to and click on this URL listed.  It will atomically relocate this address (provided it is still online)

IMPORTANT NOTE
The only problem with using this list is you need to be familiar with the actual URL as the list does not indicate the actual web site name.
